Unfortunately all is not too well with the energy industry. Threats to infrastructure security have been on an upswing. The methods and finesse of these threats outsmart the preventive techniques. Whether it is the play of nature in the form of natural catastrophes or the act of human intervention such as terrorism and piracy, energy industry’s response mechanisms have to be custom designed rather than pre-determined.

Hence, Energy Infrastructure Security Asia 2011 comes at a unique time in the life of the energy and utilities industry of Asia. This insightful industry dialogue intends this July to draft the future roadmap of ‘innovative critical asset security management rather than derivative.’

It took a team of five of us at Energy & Utilities IQ to research over a span of three months with the key energy industry stakeholders to draft the plan for this initiative. During our research a company security officer said something that stayed with us for the course of our structuring the Energy Infrastructure Security Asia 2011 conference. He said: “The risk of working at any level in the energy sector is very high. You are on a perennial war against an undetermined enemy and yet not many believe security is a prime concern. The mind – set is to be changed, especially for the energy operators in Asia.”

From 27 – 29 July 2011, Energy & Utilities IQ will be hosts in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to the thought leaders of security and operational excellence in the energy sector. Join us on this forum to engage in a key industry dialogue that goes beyond coffee table discussions. Energy Infrastructure Security Asia 2011 will look to design a sound cloak of security with its in-depth cradle-to-grave analysis including threats during:

  • Land acquisition and establishing camp sites
  • Pre-camp armed - static security
  • Security during movement of drilling equipments and personnel
  • Executive and employees travel protection
  • Transportation - armed security (rail, air & sea)
  • Commencement of drilling / pipeline laying activities
  • Establishing early oil / gas collection centres and security thereof
  • Security of off-shore platforms, receiving terminals, dispatch terminals, compressor stations etc.
  • Security of larger installations such as refineries, LPG plants and petrochemical complexes
  • Security of supply chain – storage / warehouse, rail / road transportation
  • Intelligence gathering and disaster planning
  • Constitution of Emergency Response Teams
